Coronation Street Party

  • Rochester Cathedral England, ME1 1SJ United Kingdom (map)

Please note this event is very popular and it may be necessary to queue outside the Cathedral

We will be opening our doors all day on the 6th May for people to come and celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic and a blanket along to the Cathedral to join others watching the Coronation. The Nave will be emptied of chairs allowing groups to picnic in the medieval Cathedral.

There will be one picnic bench with a difference available – The Jubilee Oak Table. The spectacular 13m long table is made from the wood of a 5,000 year old fossilised black oak tree. It was dedicated to HM Queen Elizabeth II for her Platinum Jubilee. This is a one-off chance for visitors to eat around this ‘Table for the Nation’. Seats around the table will be allocated on a first come, first served basis throughout the day.

The Cathedral will project the Coronation Ceremony itself onto screens inside the Cathedral.

The Cathedral will be open from 10am – 6pm. Admission is free but donations are welcomed. The Cathedral’s Café in the Crypt will be open between 10am and 4pm  for anyone who fancies a cream tea or has forgotten their sandwiches.

Rochester Cathedral is expecting filming and photography to take place during this event – all attendees must be happy to appear on television and in photography.
