Rochester Cathedral Sunday Club
Children of all ages are very welcome to join Rochester Cathedral's Sunday Club.
The club meets every Sunday morning during term time, at 10.30 am in the Ithamar Chapel. After a time of sharing with games, songs and refreshments, children are split into three different age groups. The sessions are run by a dedicated team of staff, all DBS checked, who teach faith and help the children experience God's love through a variety of activities, for example: through bible and other stories, discussion, drama, craft, cooking, games and prayer. The session ends with the children being escorted to Communion after which they sit with their parents until the end of the service.
Although many members are unable to come to Sunday Club regularly – due to other commitments, often within the Cathedral – they are always welcome not just on a Sunday but also to one of the many events on offer throughout the year, including events such as: annual nativity play; a summer outing; children’s stations of the cross with the help of a donkey; Easter egg hunt; special children's services; Christmas party, bonfire party; craft mornings; pizza making; pancake making; charity events….to name but a few.
The three groups within Sunday Club are:
Seekers – age 0-6 years (year 1)
After the initial time of sharing, Seekers stay in the Ithamar Chapel
Discoverers – age 6-10
This group usually moves to the Collier-Fergusson room for their session.
Frogs – age 11 upwards
This lively active group of young people met in the Crypt
Parents of Seekers and Discoverers are expected to stay on the Cathedral premises, while Frogs may not need a parent on site. In exceptional circumstances where parents need to leave the cathedral they MUST discuss and agree this beforehand with the Sunday Club leader on duty.
“Ibasho” which is a Japanese word meaning, “A safe place” is the name for our young people’s group (15-20+) and of course this is what it is: a safe place to explore who we are, our values and our faith with food, fun and fellowship. The group meets monthly on a Sunday evening to explore faith/ life issues in the comfort of a local home with food, friendship and fellowship. All welcome.
We encourage both regular and less frequent attenders to register their children. This helps us know any special needs a child might have and also provides important information such as known allergies. Once registered, the child’s parents will receive regular newsletters with information about forthcoming events.
Please contact Sugina Hesketh (firstname.lastname@example.org ) or Canon Rachel Phillips (Rachel.Phillips@rochestercathedral.org) via the Cathedral Office, Garth house on 01634 843366 for more details.

Once registered, your family will also receive regular news letters with information about forthcoming events.
We offer squash, biscuits and occasional fruit / treats in Sunday Club. Please let Sugina or any one of the team know if your child has any known allergies. Thank you.
Sadly, we have had a few Sunday Club leaders and helpers leave the staff team this year and so if any parent feels they could commit to one Sunday a month to help out with Sunday Club, please speak to Sugina or any of the leaders for more details.
